A Note from Mommy:
How do I ever begin to explain your courageous spirit, your contagious laugh, your loving heart? Yes, you’re two. You’re not perfect, but neither is mommy. You’re not always “happy”, but neither is mommy. You don’t always want to follow directions, but neither does mommy. You go to time out and sometimes mommy deserves timeout, too. You’re not perfect, but let me share a secret with you early; neither is mommy. You will make mistakes as a kid. I will make mistakes as your mommy. l fail miserably at times. Does this make us any less? No, it make us normal. I will never tell you you’re perfect because I don't ever want you to try to live up to an impossible standard. My hopes for you is that you would continually look up to the One and Only constant and perfect standard and know we may waver, but He is steadfast. We are changing, but He is everlasting. We make mistakes, yet He remains our righteousness. This, my sweet son is called grace. It's not a season of "terrible two's", but rather two's with lots of grace giving! (That is for you and mommy!!) As I read you this letter on your 2nd birthday, you will probably look at me with the most bewildered look. Mommy is just keeping it real. I am well aware you may not understand any of it at this age, but one day you will and I pray on that day, you will get to read this letter again and see first hand God’s goodness and love towards both you and mommy (& daddy!!). "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). In this world, don’t strive for perfection my dear child; strive for purpose lived in Him. Rest easy and take the the load off, my sweet son. Perfection is not found in us. It's only found in Him.
So, go run around, get your wiggles out, scream in the grocery store. Totally normal behavior for a 2 year old. What two year old doesn't "perform" in the grocery store? This doesn't mean you're not getting disciplined. This just means you will be getting disciplined + grace. You will still be sitting in time out, but you are also going to know mommy and daddy love and forgive you through it all. And we thank you for forgiving us and giving grace when we least deserve it! And we thank Christ for being our example.
So, today, we celebrate you! We celebrate the breath of life God breathed into you almost 3 years ago. We celebrate your courageous spirit, your contagious laugh and your loving heart. We celebrate the work the Lord is doing in your life and what He's made you triumphant in these past 2 years. Thank you for being you, tantrums and all! You are so loved sweet, “baby” Zay, and we praise God for who He’s created you to be!
We love you all the way to the moon and back!
Happy 2 years of life!!!!!!
